The ongoing conflict in Yemen began during the Arab Spring in 2011 when Yemenis rose up against President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Saudi Arabia, being influential in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), negotiated Saleh’s ouster and installed a new government led by Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, but discontent grew due to Hadi’s failure to address issues. Houthi rebels took control of the capital city in 2014, causing Hadi to flee to Saudi Arabia, leading Saudi Arabia to form a coalition to restore Hadi to power. The war intensified with relentless airstrikes, causing a severe humanitarian crisis. The war is a proxy conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran, with the Houthi rebels receiving support from Iran. Other countries are involved, including the US, France, and the UK. Despite peace attempts, the situation remains a stalemate. Diplomacy is seen as the only solution to end the nightmare in Yemen.
