The iPhone, originally conceived by a French software engineer named Jean-Marie Hullot, revolutionized the smartphone industry. Despite initial resistance from Steve Jobs, a team led by Hullot continued to work on the concept in secret, eventually gaining Jobs’ support. Apple was motivated to create the iPhone due to concerns over the evolving smartphone market and the potential threat it posed to its dominant position in the portable digital music player market. The iPhone project was initially assigned to a team working on wireless products but eventually reassigned to the iPod team, led by Tony Fadell. The team faced challenges in creating a phone with a suitable interface, but the solution came from a team in Paris working on touchscreen technology for a tablet-sized product, which would later become the iPad. Apple began working on two tracks, one focusing on a track wheel concept and the other on a multi-touch design. After a demanding and secretive design process, the iPhone was unveiled in 2007 and quickly became a global success, praised for its human-centered design and intuitive user interface. With over 2.3 billion units sold since its release, the iPhone has had a massive impact, revolutionizing various industries and changing the way people access information. It is recognized as one of the greatest products of all time, but for something to surpass it, it would need to be truly exceptional and groundbreaking.
