Boom Supersonic discusses the progress of its supersonic jet, the Overture, with a focus on the development of its own engine, Symphony, and the advanced design of the flight deck. The company aims to bring supersonic airliners back into commercial service within the next 5 years due to the increased speed leading to more travel and destinations. Boom is focusing on reducing noise impacts and developing quieter, more fuel-efficient engines. The team is currently testing hardware for the engine and plans to have it running in a test stand by early 2026. The flight deck of the Overture has been unveiled and is designed to be easier and safer to operate, featuring minimal physical controls and large touchscreens. The pilots will have force feedback side stick controls and an advanced autopilot system. Boom is also working on new technologies for safe landings, such as Autoland and augmented reality. The first full-scale prototype of the Overture is expected to be rolled out in 2027 and certified for delivery to airlines by the end of 2029.
