J.P. Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon discusses the current state of world affairs and the need for American leadership. He acknowledges that the world is more dangerous now than at any other time in his lifetime, citing the impact of polarized US politics on major global relationships and trade. Dimon emphasizes the importance of American leadership in maintaining economic and military stability but also acknowledges the growing isolationist wing within the Republican Party. He warns against isolationism, stating that if America gets isolated, it would be a huge mistake. Dimon also criticizes the confusion between national security and other issues, suggesting a focus on security and economic strategy instead. He acknowledges flaws within America, particularly in caring for lower-paid citizens, and highlights the need for acknowledgment without denigrating the country.

He suggests that the country’s lackluster economic growth can be attributed to shortcomings in areas such as immigration, taxation, mortgages, affordable housing, and healthcare. Dimon also discusses the need for better education and expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit as a form of industrial policy to improve social outcomes. While Dimon acknowledges his interest in public policy, he states that he is not suited for running for office. However, he doesn’t rule out the possibility of serving in an administration in the future.
